During a recent interview on The Joe Rogan Experience, actor and podcast host Jon Bernthal shared some real moments of his life before being cast on The Walking Dead. Fans of the series will always remember Bernthal for his portal of Shane Walsh in seasons 1 and 2. His death marked a vital moment in TWD history as he reanimated without being bit. During his recent appearance on Rogan’s podcast, the pair talked about a low point in Bernthal’s life that would turn out much differently than he could have expected.

Bernthal hosts his own podcast, Real Ones, where he features special guests who live in the real world and give an authentic look at the real issues facing us during this time. His guests include cops, gang members, soldiers, doctors, activists, first responders, and more, who will give open and honest dialogue.

He has hosted several Walking Dead cast members, including Norman Reedus and Sarah Wayne Callies. His TWD guests look back to the early days of the series and take fans down a nostalgic walk of memories.

Jon Bernthal on Joe Rogan’s podcast

Many fans of The Walking Dead may know about Bernthal’s past, but few have heard the story of an event that occurred one year before he would make his debut on the set of the series in his own words.

Recently he sat with Rogan and discussed an event that, had things gone another way, could have altered Bernthal’s life forever. Watch the excerpt from the interview below.

Bernthal shares an experience that could have seen him go to prison for a long time. Luckily things went a positive way, and from then on, Bernthal would redirect his life and become the inspiration we see today.

Bernthal recently starred in the American Gigolo series, The Bear, We Own this City, and The Many Saints of Newark. Next, he will star in a new movie, Snow Ponies, an action comedy with Even Peters, Josh Gad, and Charlie Plummer.
