The Last of Us will be a great option for fans of The Walking Dead

Fans of The Walking Dead will always be on the lookout for another great series in the zombie genre. With several spinoffs coming soon, fans have much to look forward to in The Walking Dead universe, but another series that fans of TWD should check out will be the upcoming The Last of Us, which will premiere on HBO Jan. 15.

The Last of Us is an adaptation of the wildly popular video game. The series is created by Craig Mazin, known for his work on the HBO series Chernobyl and The Last of Us game creator Neil Druckmann. Season 1 will consist of nine episodes that will air on HBO on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET and stream on HBO Max.

Pedro Pascal portrays Joel, a smuggler who, with his partner Tess (Anna Torv), transports cargo across the United States, which saw a collapse in civilization 20 years ago. The newest cargo is in the form of a teenage girl, Ellie (Bella Ramsey), who could be the key the creating a vaccine for the outbreak.

The Walking Dead and The Last of Us similarities

The Walking Dead and The Last of Us are drama series that happen to contain zombies. The series will be vastly different but also have many similarities.

One difference is that in The Last of Us, the virus is explained. The Cordyceps Brain Infection, or CBI, is a parasitic fungal infection that originated in South America and was then spread to the US via infected crops.

Similarities between the series:

• Neither series refers to the undead as zombies.
• Both series focus on the lives of the survivors.
• The undead element is secondary to the storyline.
• Both are adaptations, TWD of the comics and The Last of US, the video game, which also has a comic story.
• Humans are just as, if not more dangerous than, the undead.
• The main character suffered a heartbreaking loss that will significantly affect his journey.

Each series has its own tone and theme, making the experience for fans of The Walking Dead even greater, as nothing can ever replace the original. But it is exciting to have a new apocalyptic series that will see a significant focus on the survivor’s stories.
