How and when to watch The Last of Us to fill your Walking Dead void
By Renee Hansen
Fans of The Walking Dead are actively looking for a new series to watch. Several spinoffs will be coming in 2023, but until then, a new series may fill the void for fans of the long-running series. HBO will release the new series, The Last of Us, based on the same-titled video game.
The Last of Us series is directed by Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the game’s creator. Said to be the most significant production in Canadian History, The Last of Us is the new zombie series viewers are longing for.
Developed by Naughty Dog in 2013, The Last of Us video game was attempted to be adapted into a film and an animated short film. For various reasons, both projects were never completed. This will be the first game adaptation to a series for HBO and is a collaborative project between Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Naughty Dog, The Mighty Mint, and Word Games.
The series has several things in common with The Walking Dead making it an excellent fit for fans of that series. The Last of Us never refers to the undead as zombies but instead uses the terms clickers and Cordyceps, the name of the virus that has caused the apocalypse. Both series focus more on the stories of the survivors than the havoc of the undead and are both adaptions, TWD of the comics and The Last of Us of the video game. In the new series, as in TWD, the surviving humans can be as bad, if not worse, than the threat of the risen dead. In both series, the main character suffers a significant loss that will affect their journey.
The Last of Us release date

The series also stars Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Melanie Lynskey, Storm Reid, Graham Greene, Lamar Johnson, and Troy Baker, who portrayed Joel in the video games.
