The Walking Dead series concluded in November 2022, and over the 12 years the series aired, many viewers agree that the first seasons are the best. So much character development and story-building to set the tone for future seasons.  Season 2 introduced and killed several characters.

Season two introduces viewers to Hershel’s farm and the Greene family. It is sad to think that the majority of those characters have perished. The only survivors who lived out the entire series are Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride). Rick (Andrew Lincoln) survived the bridge explosion in season 9, but this information wasn’t widely known.

The second and other early seasons consistently rank as favorites with fans. This is most likely due to the smaller character list enabling the viewer to learn more and become invested in their stories. As the series progressed and many new characters and communities were added, the series lost that intimate feel.

Those photos sure bring back memories of season 2 of The Walking Dead.

After the CDC incident that ended season 1, Rick and the crew head out of Atlanta feeling Fort Benning is their only hope.  During this season, the group ends up at the Greene Family Farm, learn a lot more about Shane’s (Jon Bernthal) short fuse, and Hershel Greene (Scott Wilson) has a barn full of walkers as he believes they are only sick. After searching for quite some time for Sophia (Madison Lintz), they discover her reanimated form in the barn.

Other notable events include Lori (Sarah Wayne Callis) discovering she is pregnant, the Randall (Michael Zegen) incident, Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn) being killed, Rick and Shane finally having it out, and Shane getting killed. During this time, a horde of walkers descends on the farm, and they are forced off the farm. With Andrea (Laurie Holden) being left behind, she is saved by a cloaked figure we will later learn is Michonne (Danai Gurira).

The remaining survivors regroup on the highway, and Rick finally tells everyone what Dr. Jenner told him at the CDC, “we are all infected.” He snaps and tells them all this is no longer a democracy, and he is in charge.

Skybound has a great recap of season two here.
