In season two, Beth was introduced to viewers when Rick’s group came to Hershel Greene’s (Scott Wilson) farm. She is the youngest of Greene’s two daughters; the older one is Maggie (Lauren Cohan). Beth is a character that fans are divided on, but her death even pulled at the heartstrings of fans who didn’t like this character.

At 16 years old, Beth struggled with the new world she found herself in, especially once her family came to terms with the fact that the undead were sick, they were dead, dangerous, and there was no cure.

Did Beth die in The Walking Dead?

In season four, Beth is kidnapped and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. She meets a group of survivors, including Dawn Lerner (Christine Woods), who is in charge of the facility. Beth has received medical treatment, and Dawn tells her she owes them. This finds Beth working off her debt and discovering more about her new residence.

Beth meets Noah (Tyler James Williams), and they form a fast friendship and formulate a plan to escape. Beth is recaptured, but luckily Noah escapes to freedom. This puts Beth on the receiving end of Dawn’s wrath. Noah would eventually encounter Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride), but then Carol is hit by a car.

Unconscious, Carol is then taken to Grady Memorial, where Beth is being held, and Beth knows she must do whatever is necessary to ensure Carol receives the medical treatment she needs to survive. Daryl and Noah head back to get Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the others to assist them in breaking Beth and Carol from the hospital.

In the season 5 episode “Coda,” Rick arranges for Beth and Carol to be traded for two of Dawn’s officers that he holds hostage. As the exchange is made, Dawn also states she wants Noah back. This angers Beth as she realizes this was Dawn’s plan all along. She stabs her with some scissors, and Dawn accidentally shoots Beth. Accident or not, Daryl shoots Dawn without a moment’s hesitation.

Beth’s death shocked the fandom and was followed by the heartbreaking reactions of Daryl, Rick, and then Maggie.
