Is Fear the Walking Dead a spinoff series?
By Renee Hansen
By 2024, The Walking Dead universe will consist of the main series, several webisodes, and six spinoffs. According to TWD Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple, the focus is currently on the three newest series, Dead City, Daryl Dixon, and Summit, but there are many more ideas on the back burner, including a possible second season of the anthology series, Tales of the Walking Dead. One question often asked is if Fear the Walking Dead is considered a spinoff.
Fear the Walking Dead is set in the same world as The Walking Dead and is considered a spinoff. Fear TWD began at the onset of the outbreak and had a great look at how people acclimated to this horrifying new world surrounding them.
The series would begin its story in Los Angeles before heading to Mexico and then Texas. As with any apocalypse story, many deaths along the way have created opportunities to introduce many other characters. Fear TWD is the first spinoff series and the first to see crossover characters from TWD. In season 4, Morgan Jones (Lennie James) would make his debut on Fear TWD, and soon after, Dwight (Austin Amelio) and his wife Sherry (Christine Evangelista) would also join the series.
Fear the Walking Dead spinoff series
Fear the Walking Dead will premiere its eighth and final season on May 14, 2023, on AMC. The last season will consist of two parts, and the second will feature a time jump of seven years. This time jump will align Fear TWD’s timeline with the main series. Many hope this will also allow characters from Fear TWD to appear in a spinoff series.
