Walking Dead actor Steven Yeun cast in Marvel’s Thunderbolts

Deadline reports that Steven Yeun will become the next Walking Dead cast member to join the MCU. Yeun has joined the cast of Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts. The actor is well known for several memorable roles, including the mild-mannered Glenn Rhee on The Walking Dead. 

Thunderbolts will be directed by Jake Schreier, known for Robot & Frank, written by Eric Pearson, the writer for Black Widow, and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios President. Based on the comic of the same name, this series sees a group of antiheroes performing missions for the government.

This film is part of Phase Five of the MCU and features Marvel Studios productions released from 2023 to mid-2024. Other films in this phase include Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,  Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Marvels, Captain America: New World Order, and Blade. 

Filming for Thunderbolts is scheduled to begin in Atlanta, Georgia, in June 2023, with an expected release date of July 26, 2024.

Several other cast members will join this film, reprising roles from previous MCU projects.

  • Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov / Taskmaster
  • Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross

Yeun’s undisclosed role is significant to this film and could see the actor star in future MCU films.  Ayo Edebiri has also joined the cast in an unknown role.

Steven Yeun’s upcoming roles

Yeun has been very active since he departed from The Walking Dead in 2016. Check him out in features like Mayhem, Space Jam: New Legacy, The Humans, Nope, and his noteworthy performance in Minari that earned him an Oscar nomination as the first-ever Asian-American in the Lead Actor Category.

Next, Yeun will star in the Netflix and A24 series Beef with Ali Wong and two sci-fi movies, Mikey 17, which will release in 2024, and Love Me with Kristen Stewart.
