The Walking Dead: Dead City’s latest teaser might be short, but it was packed with information. Hershel has been abducted, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is a wanted man and is the key to rescuing Maggie’s (Lauren Cohan) son, the walkers are gruesome, and Željko Ivanek appears to be the villain. There is one story this series must clear up to make any sense.

In the last episode of The Walking Dead, “Rest in Peace,” Negan and Maggie have a very frank conversation. Maggie informs him that she is thankful for what he did for her son, but she can never forget what he did to her husband, Glenn (Steven Yeun). Negan, understanding, heads off, presumably with his wife Annie (Medina Senghore), who is pregnant with their child.

After the one-year time jump in the series finale, Negan isn’t seen. The only mention of him is a letter he writes to Judith (Cailey Fleming), returning her compass. Annie would have given birth by that time, so it seems odd this wasn’t shown or mentioned.

The Walking Dead: Dead City – Negan’s story

One thing Dead City needs to do, to make Negan’s decision to run off to Manhattan make sense is to clarify what has happened to his wife and child. It would make no sense to introduce this storyline and never give viewers closure. This is a significant event in Negan’s life that would greatly alter his actions.

From the looks of the trailer, he is a wanted man as his face is on a wanted poster, and Maggie is heard stating, “You’re the key to getting him back.” So, even if he has a wife and child, he could still go on this mission because he technically owes Maggie after killing her husband. The point is…this storyline needs to be at least referenced in this series.

What do you think? Will Dead City reference Negan’s family, or will viewers be left to wonder?
