Walking Dead: Rick and Michonne won’t return in 2023
By Renee Hansen
Fans of The Walking Dead power couple Rick and Michonne are excited to see the pair return to TWDU. At Comic-Con 2022, it was announced that the couple would return to the universe with their own series. This was exciting news for the fandom as progress on the previously announced movies appeared to be at a standstill. This new series, currently titled Summit, will replace the movies.
Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) departed The Walking Dead in seasons 9 and 10, respectively, and fans have longed for their return. They got their wish during The Walking Dead series finale episode, “Rest in Peace,” during a coda scene featuring the two characters.
The current title for the series is Summit, which was initially scheduled for a release in 2023. But in January, it was announced that the release date has been pushed to 2024. Filming couldn’t begin as early as hoped, setting things back. Filming did begin in New Jersey in February 2023.
Walking Dead – Rick and Michonne series
Lincoln left the main series to spend time with his family and Guriria to pursue new projects. The bad part was their stories were left wide open. Rick was taken away by the CRM (Civic Republic Military) and Michonne, upon discovering Rick didn’t die, when in search of him. The Walking Dead has often left characters’ departures unfinished, with several vanishing without a trace, but Rick and Michonne are vital to the story as main characters. Their stories need to be told.
Recently it was announced that Lucifer actress Lesley-Ann Brandt was added to the cast of Summit. She will play a character named Pearl Thorne, but no details regarding the character have been revealed.
