The Walking Dead: Dead City premiere date, character recasting and more

WonderCon 2023 was a massive event for The Walking Dead universe. Fear the Walking Dead released the full-length trailer for the eighth and final season while also revealing what fans can expect in the last season—other great news released during this event centered around The Walking Dead: Dead City spinoff.

Dead City cast members Lauren Cohan and Gaius Charles were joined by showrunner Eli Jorné for the WonderCon panel, moderated by Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick. Jeffrey Dean Morgan was absent from the panel as he is filming for The Boys but did send a video message for fans. Fans were excited to learn more about the latest spinoff of The Walking Dead series that will continue the stories of Maggie (Cohan) and Negan (Morgan).

Newcomer Gaius Charles will portray a character named Perlie Armstrong, a marshal in New Babylon charged with keeping law and order in this community. New Babylon has come together to try to rebuild the world after the outbreak. Armstrong’s goal is to bring justice to and protect their community. The biggest challenge he faces is apprehending a man named Negan. The teaser shows Armstrong holding a wanted sign with Negan’s likeness.

The Walking Dead: Dead City recasts a familiar character

Dead City will be set a few years after the events of The Walking Dead’s final episode. This requires a recasting of Maggie’s son Hershel, played by Kien Michael Spiller in seasons 10 and 11. Ghostbusters: Afterlife actor Logan Kim has been cast to play an aged-up version of Hershel in this series.

The Walking Dead: Dead City release date

Dead City will premiere on June 18, 2023, at 10 p.m. ET. The first episode of this series will immediately follow the mid-season 8 finale of Fear the Walking Dead.
