In an interview with ET Online The Walking Dead: Dead City actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan teases the relationship between his Negan and Lauren Cohan’s Maggie. The interview was conducted during the AMC Upfronts event, and Morgan and Cohan each share a bit about what fans can expect in this new series.

Morgan begins by stating, “They’re not getting married, you know what I mean?” It has long been speculated what could possibly force long-time enemies Negan and Maggie together, and a romantic relationship is one topic that has been discussed. But thankfully, it was correctly guessed that it would revolve around Maggie’s son Hershel (Logan Kim). The new series will see Hershel abducted by a new threat known as The Croat (Željko Ivanek), who will be tracked to Manhattan.

Negan is wanted by Marshal Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles), who is in charge of keeping law and order in a state named New Babylon. This ties into Herhsel’s abduction, and Maggie needs Negan’s help. Morgan says, “…at least that’s the story she’s giving him.”

The Walking Dead: Dead City

The Walking Dead: Dead City will premiere in June and be quite different from the flagship series’ wooded setting. This series will be set in an apocalyptic New York City, making for a fascinating story.

This story will pick up a few years after the events of The Walking Dead’s series finale, and Cohan has stated that things will be very interesting in a conflict-ridden way.

"I think that people are very excited and very curious about why these two would be together on a journey, and that’s all going to be delved into in a really interesting, conflict-ridden way, which is always fun to play."

The Walking Dead: Dead City will premiere on AMC and AMC+ on June 18 at 10 p.m. ET. This series will debut immediately following the midseason 8 finale of Fear the Walking Dead.
