The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon series is reportedly set for a summer release. As reported by ET Online, Daryl Dixon could be released in June 2023, the same timeline as The Walking Dead: Dead City, which premieres on June 18. This has yet to be confirmed by AMC. Reedus shares more about what fans can expect from his spinoff during the EW interview conducted during AMC Upfronts.

UPDATE: The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon release date September 10 on AMC.

Daryl Dixon is a character created for the series and not featured in the comics created by Robert Kirkman. Reedus has portrayed Daryl since season one of the series premiered in 2010. Now he will continue Daryl’s story in an overseas adventure that finds him washed ashore in France.

Reedus has long stated that this new series is vastly different from the flagship series and will be a reset for his character.

"Everything kind of breathes in a romantic way. We have the backdrop of France, we have the Catacombs, the Eiffel Tower. … The whole vibe is different."

When viewers pick up with Daryl, he will have arrived in France with no knowledge of how or why he is there. He will immediately decide to find his way back home but encounters new people who make this task difficult.

It appears the series has been renewed for a second season, which according to many other cast members and casting calls, has already begun filming.

Reedus was uncertain about reprising his role as Daryl Dixon in a spinoff. The fact that things went in a very different direction and he could do what he wanted in the way he wanted made him agree to the new series. He also serves as an executive producer on the series, which allows him to give much more input.

"There’s a lot going on, but it’s super poetic, it’s super beautiful. It’s not a repeat of the same show at all."
