On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, members of The Writer’s Guild of America voted to strike for the first time in 15 years. This means all writing for late-night TV and scripted series has come to a halt until the writers and studios can come to an agreement on terms. This action will drastically affect new programming for the 2023-2024 network season. Will this strike affect The Walking Dead spinoff series?

This means that any scripts that have been completed can continue to shoot, but there can be no rewrites, reworks, or other changes to the script. Scott M. Gimple, who serves many roles in The Walking Dead universe, including writer for the spinoffs, is a WGA member.

According to The Wrap, AMC Networks have stated the strike will not disrupt the upcoming series currently in production.

AMC has yet to announce a second season renewal but newcomer, Mahina Napoleon, who plays a character name Ginny, stated in an interview that she was scheduled to return to New York to begin filming for a second season later in 2023. If this is accurate, the second season could be affected by the writers strike.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 1

The series that will follow Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) to France wrapped filming its first season in March 2023 and is scheduled to release its six episode first season in the fall of 2023 on AMC and AMC+.
