It was a great start to a final season, giving promise to an excellent last chapter in Fear the Walking Dead’s story.
This article contains spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead season 8, episode 1, “Remember What They Took From You.”
This episode picked up where season 7 left off with Morgan (Lennie James) and newly returned Madison (Kim Dickens) heading to PADRE on a rescue mission. They were attempting to rescue Morgan’s daughter Mo. But this plan goes south, and the story quickly advances to the promised seven-year time jump.
During that time, Madison has been imprisoned, and Mo (Zoey Merchant), now eight years old, is training to fight walkers and feels something is missing in her life. She eventually comes across Madison and assists her in breaking out of jail, leading her to meet her adopted parents Morgan and Grace (Karen David), who live on PADRE.
Some strange things are happening with Morgan as his boat house walls have graffiti written on them, just like the “Clear” house, and there is serious tension between him and Grace. Mo has some memory flashbacks from when she was a small child.
The first episode is slowly unwinding the mystery of what happened seven years ago when Morgan and Madison first tried to escape off the island with Mo. Ultimately Morgan and Grace give Mo back up to PADRE, thinking they can give her the protection she needs, but PADRE can.
