Fear the Walking Dead what happens in the seven year time jump?
By Renee Hansen
Fear the Walking Dead premiered its final season on AMC on May 14. It was announced that this season would experience a seven-year time jump which brings Fear TWDs story just about in sync with The Walking Dead. When did the time jump occur, and what happened after the jump?
Many viewers wonder if the time jump was planned to allow some of the Fear the Walking Dead characters to crossover to one of the spinoffs in the works at AMC in The Walking Dead universe. It doesn’t appear to be the case. In a statement at WonderCon 2023, showrunner Ian Goldberg stated that every character in the series would conclude their story by the end of the season.
In an interview with Insider, showrunners Goldberg and Andrew Chambliss reveal that the time jump was their idea. The end of season 7 finally revealed some information about PADRE, a topic of mystery throughout that season. With the return of Madison (Kim Dickens), she sheds light on the fact that PADRE is in the business of abducting children and training them for combat.
Goldberg stated:
"“The driving thing was we wanted to see what it was like to actually be a kid that grows up inside of P.A.D.R.E. and what the product of that is when you’ve grown up there. We thought the perfect lens to do that through was baby Mo, not so much a baby when we meet her again. It just felt like the best way to dramatize what it’s like to grow up like as a kid under this PADRE philosophy."
Fear the Walking Dead season 8 – time jump
When the season opens, things begin shortly after the events of season 7. Madison and Morgan (Lennie James) arrive at PADRE to rescue his daughter Mo and flee the island.
Seven years later, viewers see an eight-year-old Mo, now called Wren (Zoey Merchant), who is being trained at killing walkers. Madison has been imprisoned for that entire time, and eventually, Mo helps her escape.
Morgan finds them, but PLOT TWIST, he is a collector for PADRE. This has likely been weighing heavily on him as he has returned to his “Clear” mindset with the graffiti on the walls of his boat house.
Grace (Karen David) shows up just in time to save the day, but the relationship between her and Morgan is strained.
By the end of the episode, Grace will return to her job, Madison is recaptured, Mo is heading back to her training, and Morgan has been relieved of his collector duties.
Another interesting reveal is that Morgan doesn’t know where the other survivors have gone. The synopsis for episode 2 mentions June (Jenna Elfman), Dwight (Austin Amelio), and Sherry (Christine Evangelista), so viewers will find out about these characters next week.
