Walking Dead: Dead City actress Pallavi Sastry interview

Actress Pallavi Sastry took time away from her busy schedule to chat with Undead Walking about her role in the new spinoff The Walking Dead: Dead City, which premieres on AMC on June 18. Sastry recently starred in the film Land of Gold with close friend and Fear the Walking Dead actress Karen David.
Sastry plays a character named Nina in Dead City, someone new to Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) story. This series is set in apocalyptic Manhattan and will see the long-time enemies come together in an attempt to rescue Maggie’s son Hershel (Logan Kim).

The award-winning multi-hyphenated Sastry was born and raised in Texas and began performing at an early age, singing at the age of 4 under the guidance of renowned Carnatic and Playback Singer Mani Sastry, who is her mother. She would also learn dance from renowned Indian Classical Dance Guru Rathna Kumar and perform in Telugu cultural events.
As a teen, she discovered the magic of musical theater, leading to her attending The University of Oklahoma’s Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre on scholarship. Sastry would work alongside Tony Award-winning artists Kelli O’Hara, Nick Demos, and Sally Struthers while working at the Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma. She performed in several Off-Broadway and national touring productions before finding her true calling in films and TV.
Sastry looks familiar because she has starred in many other roles, including CBS’ Blue Bloods in a recurring role and Master of None, Quantico, The Affair, Nurse Jackie, The Night Of, and
Last Week Tonight w/ John Oliver.
She is a devoted wife and mother who can be found singing Beyoncé to her dog and in her all too rare spare time, co-hosts Brown Girls Who Brunch. This holistic industry social event builds community over competition amongst South Asian women in Hollywood . She is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA, AEA, and Women in Film.
She co-hosts and produces What Are Friends For, a top 100 relationship podcast with her longtime best friend Gabriella Ruis (CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend).
