The Walking Dead universe is ripe with spinoff series. Dead City, the fourth spinoff, is currently airing on AMC to rave reviews. Next, the Daryl Dixon spinoff will release in the fall of 2023, with Rick & Michonne coming in 2024. In the summer of 2022, an anthology spinoff, Tales of the Walking Dead, was released. This series is now available on Blu-ray and DVD.

Showrunner Channing Powell and TWD Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple created Tales of the Walking Dead. The series consists of six episodes, three directed by Walking Dead veteran Michael Satrazemis and the remaining three by Ron Underwood, Haifaa al-Mansour, and Deborah Kampmeier.

Tales of the Walking Dead: The First Complete Season is now available to purchase on Blu-ray and DVD on Amazon or wherever you buy your physical copies of your favorite movies and shows.

Tales of the Walking Dead – anthology series

As the third spinoff in TWDU, Tales of the Walking Dead is an amazing set of standalone stories which introduced a whole new batch of characters. Each story is featured in a different location within the United States at a different time after the outbreak, with one story set 30 years into the future.

Tales of TWD also brought in a brand new set of actors into the TWDU, including Oliva Munn, Jessie T. Usher, Danny Ramirez, Loan Chabanol, Embeth Davitz, Lauren Glazier, Daniella Pineda, Terry Crews, Anthony Edwards, Poppy Liu, Parker Posey, Julian Bell, Matt Medrano, Scarlett Blum and more.

The third episode, “Dee,” sees Samantha Morton return as Alpha during a time when she was still known as Dee. She is accompanied by a much younger Lydia, and this serves as an origin story of sorts for Alpha and how she came to be with the Whisperers. It is a different story than what viewers already know, adding a great twist to this character’s history.

Viewers can watch this series without ever watching any other Walking Dead series, but eagled-eyed fans of TWDU will enjoy several Easter Eggs sprinkled throughout.
