Where is Hilltop in The Walking Dead?
By Renee Hansen
The subject of the Hilltop Colony has come up as a topic of conversation due to the mentions in the new spinoff, The Walking Dead: Dead City. Maggie (Lauran Cohan) was the former leader of the community and was devastated to learn, upon her return, that the community was destroyed during the Whisperer War. Are Maggie and her son Hershel (Logan Kim) at a new location in Dead City? Where is it located?
Dead City finds Maggie and Hershel relocated to an old brick factory called The Bricks. This location is separate from The New Babylon Federation, near New Jersey.
The original Hilltop Colony was located in Culpeper, Virginia, and was home to a historical museum, the Barrington House. It was used as a FEMA camp early after the outbreak but was later abandoned.
Gregory (Xander Berkeley) would form the community and serve as the leader. The Saviors, led by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), would force the community to comply with their policy in which they would leave them alone as long as they gave them half of their supplies on a regular basis.

Eventually Maggie takes over and Gregory tries to assassinate her, which she in turn had him hanged for. Eventually Maggie would leave, with her young son, to help build other communities. Years later when she returned Hilltop was destroyed.
She made an attempt at rebuilding before Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton) of the Commonwealth took over all of the communities. After the Commonwealth uprising, Ezekiel would take over as Governor of the Commonwealth, and it seemed Hilltop would be part of the rebuilding efforts.
This wasn’t the case, as the house was beyond repair and in Dead City, Maggie is part of the new community near New York/New Jersey which is called The Bricks. Perhaps more information about this location will be shared in season 2 of Dead City.
