I am not sure what was cheesier, the title of my article or Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) kill in this week’s Walking Dead: Dead City episode. Kidding aside, that kill was brutal to watch. I am sure every viewer got chills down their spine during the scene in episode 3, “People Are a Resource.”

This episode contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: Dead City episode 3, “People Are a Resource.”

Negan has been trying to tell everyone that there is more to the story than what Marshal Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles) is telling everyone. The marshal is hunting Negan down for killing five men from New Babylon. In episode three, Negan finally shares the events that lead to Armstrong’s manhunt, which is related to the fate of his wife and child.

This episode also sees Luther (Michael Anthony) become even more concerned about Negan’s loyalties when Maggie (Lauren Cohan) shares his connection with The Croat (Željko Ivanek). When Luther discovers the wanted poster, he wants Negan and Maggie gone from their presence.

The Walking Dead: Dead City – Luther

Luther is the muscle behind the group known as the Tribespeople. This group is made up of native New Yorkers who try to survival against the undead and The Croat and his Burazi.

When Maggie shares that The Croat used to be part of Negan’s crew, Luther voices his concerns about this.  He doesn’t see how the plan can work and believes it will get his people killed.

Before the night is over Luther discovers the wanted poster Negan kept for his amusement. Luther demands that he and Maggie leave immediately. He reads off the reasons on the poster and emphasizes the line that reads “do not trust him.”

The disagree and a fight ensues. Negan pulls out a cheese grater he had pocketed to use as a weapon and grates across Luther’s forehead. (did you feel that too?) Luther falls back onto an exposed pipe and it impales the base of his skull. As he lies there twitching Negan watches and then proceeds to put him out of his misery by pushing him down on the pipe, with a look of such intensity and rage.

The old Negan, or the Negan he suppresses when needed, once again, does what he needed to do. This death was accidental but it could cause more problems for him when the other Tribespeople find out.

The Walking Dead: Dead City will air new episodes weekly on AMC on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET. AMC+ subscribers can watch new episodes three days early on Thursdays.
