Actor Callan McAuliffe is known for his role in The Walking Dead as Alden from seasons 8-11. Sadly, Alden didn’t make it to the end of the story and was killed in season 11. Deadline reports that McAuliffe has been cast in a new movie, a Great Expectations spinoff.
Expectations is to be a companion piece to Charles Dicken’s Great Expectations. Directed by Chris Robert Riegel, whose 2016 film Another You was screened at TIFF. The film, which is in post-production, is expected to make a festival run late in 2023.
The lovable orphan Pip, from the original story, is an adult in his 30s and discovers life isn’t what he expected. He believes his luck is about to change when he receives an invite for a weekend retreat from his former benefactor Miss Havisham. Instead, he is met by his former love, the emotionally cold Estella, and childhood ally Herbert Pocket. Along with a new cast of characters, they must solve Havisham’s riddle that could unlock a vast inheritance.
"Expectations is a family-focused, holiday week-end style story that features hi-jinks and mischief, depicting some legendary characters with a new twist."
McAuliffe portrays Pip and is joined by Rina Lipa, Blu Hunt, Samuel Arnold, Annie Q. Reigel, Colin Ferguson, Chris Gray, Nadia Alexander, and Jenna Leigh Green, who plays Miss Havisham.
