Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles) turned on Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) after Negan saved his life in episode four of The Walking Dead: Dead City. Armstrong is a man who takes his responsibilities as a man of law and order seriously and will do anything to see that Negan is charged for his crimes in New Babylon. Will Armstrong have second thoughts and side with Negan against The Croat (Željko Ivanek)?

Episode four of Dead City, “Everybody Wins a Prize,” saw the long-awaited reunion between Negan and The Croat. When Negan was the leader of the Saviors, The Croat was part of his crew. He served as a torturer for the Saviors and took things too far. This would lead to Negan shooting at The Croat but only taking off his ear, and he escaped.

Fast forward to events in Dead City, and The Croat has formed his own version of the Sanctuary, the former hub of the Saviors, and was very proud to show Negan his progress. He was willing to let the past lie, or so he says, and proudly displayed his work to Negan, as a child would to his father.

The Walking Dead: Dead City – Armstrong and Negan

Armstrong entered Manhattan with two motives: to find out about his estranged brother, who sadly had taken his own life, and to capture Negan and bring him to justice. After locating his brother, he set out to find Negan but was instead captured by The Croat and his Burazi.

The Croat put him in a UFC ring and forced him to fight off walkers, one of which had the key to his handcuffs in his stomach. Armstrong proved himself and was able to fight his way out. He would then tell The Croat his reason for coming to Manhattan was to apprehend a man named Negan.

Soon after, Negan would find The Croat, who would turn Armstrong over to him, thinking he would be happy to have his pursuer in his custody. But, Negan instead saved Armstrong, and The Croat realized Negan was no longer the same man who led the Saviors.

Instead of being grateful, Armstrong still takes Negan into custody to return him to New Babylon to carry out punishment for his crimes.

Armstrong likely isn’t aware of Negan’s reasons for killing the five men from New Babylon. If Negan shares this information with him, will that change his feelings toward bringing Negan to justice? Armstrong has previously stated he is a family man and would understand a husband’s rage toward the men who harmed his wife.

If so, they could team up to take on The Croat and make their way off of the island.

The Walking Dead: Dead City has two episodes remaining in the season. Will things end on a significant cliffhanger? Be sure to catch new episodes of Dead City on AMC on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET. AMC+ subscribers can watch episodes three days early.
