Walking Dead universe news from SDCC 2023
By Renee Hansen
AMC hosted a The Walking Dead Universe Fan Watch Party in Hall H at San Diego Comic Con 2023 (SDCC). Things were much different at this year’s event due to the SAG-AFTRA & WGA strikes, which meant no actors were present for the panels. AMC shortened the event and made the best of things announcing some exciting new things within TWDU.
Ahead of the event, AMC announced what information would be coming out of the SDCC watch party.
- A retrospective piece and an exclusive clip for Fear the Walking Dead’s final six episodes, which returns on Oct. 22.
- A sneak peek at The Walking Dead: Dead City’s season finale airing Sunday, July 23.
The debut of the official trailer and a sneak peek of the first half of the first episode of the highly anticipated next series in TWDU, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, premiering September 10. - A tease for the Untitled Rick and Michonne series, debuting in 2024.
Walking Dead universe SDCC announcements and info
The event began with a montage trailer of the characters (reported by @julianexcalibur). He also reported there is to be NO recording or photos and Chris Hardwick, host of Talking Dead, wasn’t the moderator for the event. Hardwick has traditionally led all TWD panels.
Damian Holbrook was the host of the AMC panels. He is a writer for TV Insider.
@SarabethPollock who is also in attendance, stated the sneak peek of the Dead City finale was aired first. The official announcement of Dead City’s second season was also announced. This was speculated for months but now AMC has confirmed.
Next, the trailer for season 8, part 2 of Fear the Walking Dead was aired. This segment of six episodes will conclude this story beginning Oct. 22, 2023.
Julian has confirmed that Troy (Daniel Sharman) will return for season 8B of Fear the Walking Dead. This is just ridiculous. How did he survive?
Sarabeth stated she that is was good to see Strand and Madison together again.
The long awaited first look at the Rick and Michonne series was featured next. And the series has an official titled The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.
Next, the first 20 minutes of episode 1 of Daryl Dixon was shown and it was officially announced for a second season. This was something that had been widely circulated but now it has been announced by AMC.
I want to give all the THANKS and praise to Julian Cannon and Sarabeth Pollock for keeping us informed of all the news from SDCC. It is wonderful to have such dedicated journalist willing to share this info with those who are unable to attend. THANK YOU!
