TWD World Beyond actor Nico Tortorella publishes debut children’s book
By Renee Hansen
Nico Tortorella is an actor well known for his roles in The Walking Dead: World Beyond and Younger. But did you know he is an author as well? Tortorella previously published two books, one a work of poetry and the other a memoir. The actor recently announced the newest addition to their library of works, a children’s book, Olivette Is You.
This story, written by Tortorella and illustrated by Melissa Kashiwagi, informs readers that they can be anything they want by teaching “all of it is YOU!” Inspired by the author’s experiences, this picture book will help readers see that “you don’t have to choose who or what to be; you are already everything.”
Tortorella has always been interested in the spiritual side of life, and “Olivette Is You” is an extension of that. The book reveals a fresh perspective that people already embody the entirety of the universe.
"“Olivette Is You” elegantly transcends conventional gender confines. It’s a narrative that traverses boundaries and sparks conversations about identity’s multifaceted brilliance. In a world often divided, my hope is for “Olivette Is You” to bridge gaps, fostering connections between contrasting viewpoints."
Tortorella shared the news on social media, explaining that the book is very personal and was born during he and his wife’s fertility journey.
Olivette Is You is distributed by Penguin Random House, will be available April 30, 2024, and can be pre-ordered now.
Tortorella’s poetry book, All Of It Is You, is a collection of verse from his perspective as an actor, podcaster, and advocate. More than words on a page, this book is a sensual journey revealing that each connection in a person’s life directly affects why you are here.
Space Between is Tortorella’s other published book, which expands the themes of his podcast The Love Bomb. This is the personal story through the lens of his nonbinary identity and experiences in love, sex, gender, addiction, family, fame, and fluidity.
UPDATE: You can read more about the book at People.com in and exclusive interview. According to the article Tortorella identifies as gender fluid and prefers he/him pronouns in writing, this article was edited to reflect that preference.
