The reunion between fan-favorite characters Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) will be featured in the upcoming spinoff, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. 

The Ones Who Live official title was announced at SDCC 2023 and comes from a quote that Rick and Michonne hold dear. Rick first used the phrase in season 5 while addressing the residents of Alexandria to explain that his group lives because they act while they hide behind their walls.

The series completed filming in May 2023, and Scott M. Gimple serves as showrunner and is listed as a producer with Christie Colliopoulos, Brian Bockrath, Greg Nicotero, Lincoln, and Gurira.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live teaser

AMC also released the first teaser for The Ones Who Live at SDCC 2023. It doesn’t give any clues to the storyline, but just seeing Rick and Michonne was worth it. Michonne is heard saying that she lost someone and found out he is alive.

When is The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live release date?

The teaser trailer reveals that The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will see a release in 2024. Filming wrapped in May 2023 which should allow for a debut early in the year. If you are missing The Walking Dead viwers can you watch all eleven seasons on Netflix or check out the new spinoffs. The Walking Dead: Dead City is avaiable on AMC+ and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will premiere on September 10. Both series have been renewed for second seasons.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live has a total of six episodes that will release weekly on AMC and AMC+.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live synopsis

Little has been released about the storyline for The Ones Who Live but it will continue the couple’s epic love story.

"The love story of Rick Grimes and Michonne is changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. Can they find each other and who they were in a situation unlike any they’ve ever known?"

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live cast

The series will feature Lincoln and Gurira in the reprisal of their roles as Rick and Michonne. They left the main series in season 9 and 10 respectively and have been apart since that time.

Pollyanna McIntosh will return to TWDU as Jadis. She was last seen in The Walking Dead: World Beyond as Warrant Officer Jadis Stokes, it is interesting that she took Father Gabriel’s (Seth Gilliam) last name. After trading Rick to the CRM (Civic Republic Military) she worked her way up in the ranks of this organiztion.

Walking Dead newcomer, Lesley-Ann Brandt, will play a charcter named Pearl Thorne. Brandt is known for her role in the series Lucifer.
