Celebrate Walking Dead universe Monument Day this weekend (August 26)

AMC has announced that during the weekend of August 26, 2023, The Walking Dead’s Facebook and YouTube pages will celebrate Monument Day. This day commemorates the collapse of society within The Walking Dead universe, which occurred on Friday, August 27, 2010, three days after the Wildfire Virus became a global pandemic.

Posts via The Walking Dead’s social media pages announced the viewing marathon will be celebrated with live streams of episodes of the first seasons of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. The episodes will begin at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 26.

The Walking Dead universe – What is Monument Day?

Monument Day is the day that society collapsed after the Wildfire Virus became a worldwide issue that saw the dead begin to rise. Unrest and rioting would lead to the issuance of Martial Law, and Operation Cobalt would be implemented two weeks later. The campaign, issued by the US Military, would end after the military lost control and areas with large numbers of infected and large cities were bombed, trying to contain the spread of the virus. This would lead to the collapse of the government.

The event was first celebrated during The Walking Dead: World Beyond spinoff series at the Campus Colony in Lincoln, Nebraska, followed by Feast Day.

The glimpses of this day are shown in some of TWD series and several webisodes. Fires, looting, and death were abundant, with World Beyond showing the most extensive look at the chaos of this day.
