Walking Dead – Rosemary Rodriguez looks back at Rick & Daryl S9 fight
By Renee Hansen
Walking Dead fans are excited for the release of the new spinoff The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon on September 10. TWD director Rosemary Rodriguez shared on social media that she, too, is looking forward to the spinoff. She also included a behind-the-scenes video featuring Norman Reedus and Andrew Lincoln from season 9, episode 5 of “The Obliged,” one of the episodes she directed.
Before “The Obliged,” Rodriguez directed two other episodes, “Sing Me a Song” from season 7 and “The Damned,” from season 8. Both episodes were vital to the season’s larger story, as was her third episode.
“The Obliged” would end with Rick impaled on rebar and hordes of walkers approaching. This episode sets up Lincoln’s departure from the show.
The Walking Dead – The Obliged
Rodriguez’s post on social media shows a video of Reedus and Lincoln riding a motorcycle in a parking lot, preparing for their fight scene in “The Obliged.” The duo, of course, puts on a show for the camera, with Reedus flashing a smile and a thumbs-up at the end.
She gave a shout-out to TWD stunt coordinator Monty Simons. She states that Simons always listened to the story she wanted to tell and provided great ideas to make this happen.
She felt honored to direct “The Obliged” and work with Reedus and Lincoln.
She knew Lincoln was leaving the show, but no details had been revealed to her. When she read the script for “The Obliged” by Geraldine Inoa, she was excited to play a small part in Rick’s epic departure.
The scene between Rick and Daryl in the hole was some of the best dialogue between the two characters. It was raw and emotional, and fans loved seeing these two characters interact.
Fans long to see a reunion between these two characters, but with Daryl off in France, it will be unlikely.
