David Morrissey stars in new drama, The Long Shadow for ITV

David Morrissey is an English actor well-known for many notable roles throughout his career. One standout role was that of The Governor, a villain in The Walking Dead series. Deadline reports that next, he will star in ITV’s The Long Shadow, formerly titled Yorkshire Ripper.
Directed by Lewis Arnold, known for Time and Sherwood, The Long Shadow was written by George Kay, who also wrote Lupin and Apple TVs Hijack. Recent reports note that the title of the true crime drama was changed to prevent, according to Kay, “dark brand around a man who doesn’t deserve that sort of attention.” This was out of respect for the victim’s families.
The seven-episode drama will be released on ITV and ITVX in September 2023, but the exact date has yet to be announced.

David Morrissey portrays DCS George Oldfield, who famously took on the investigation. Toby Jones is DCS Dennis Hoban, Lee Ingleby is DCS Jim Hobson, with Katherine Kelly as Emily Jackson, Daniel Mays as her husband, Sydney Jackson, and Shaun Thomas as their son, Neil Jackson.
The series also stars Jill Halfpenny, Daisy Waterstone, Jasmine Lee-Jones, Molly Wright, Liz White, and Shaun Dooley. And includes Alexa Davies, Chloe Harris, Stephen Tompkinson, Jack Deam, Michael McElhatton, Adam Long, Ruth Madeley, Dorothy Atkinson, Rob James-Collier, Charley Webb, Steven Waddington and Kris Hitchen.
The Long Shadow description
The series tells of the five-year hunt for serial killer Peter Sutcliffe, with the story crafted using extensive research with hundreds of case files, transcripts of interviews, and police reports. Michael Bilton’s Wicked Beyond Belief was also referenced as source material.
The Long Shadow focuses on the lives of Sutcliffe’s victims and the officials in charge of the investigation. This series sheds light on a new perspective of the story featuring the victims, their families, and the survivors at the heart of the story.
