This week’s episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon sees Daryl (Norman Reedus) and his group’s arrival in Paris. The series continues to shed light on the destruction of France, which somehow still retains its old-world beauty. Daryl and Isabelle (Clémence Poésy) look back on their pasts and realize they may be more alike than previously thought.

The episode, titled Paris sera toujours Paris” (Paris Will Always Be Paris), forces Isabelle to come face to face with her dark past, which she would rather not be reminded of. She is reunited with Quinn (Adam Nagaitis), whom she betrayed at the onset of the outbreak. She will also return to her apartment, where she and Daryl have a heart-to-heart conversation (in the clip below) in which Isabelle states that they might be the same in the fact that they were both broken before the world ended.

It is an interesting statement because if you look back on these characters’ past, the end of the world was a blessing in disguise. Being rid of the people who influenced the worst in them has allowed them to flourish and be the people they were meant to be. It seems an odd concept, but in the case of Daryl and Isabelle, their past traumas held them back from fulfilling their true purposes.
