The third episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, Paris sera toujours Paris” (Paris Will Always Be Paris) features Daryl (Norman Reedus) and his companion’s arrival in Paris. This episode also reveals a lot of new information, including more on Laurent’s parentage and the testing on walkers.

This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 1, episode 3,  “Paris sera toujours Paris” (Paris Will Always Be Paris)

The recap below is sectioned into good and bad, what’s to come, and standout characters from episode 3.

The Good:

  • The series continues to impress with the fantastic look at apocalyptic France.
  • The Conductor (Eric Frey) might be a bit insane, but what a genius use of the undead.
  • Daryl, done with doing things Isabelle’s way, proclaims, “It’s too dangerous everywhere. We did it your way. Now we’re gonna do it mine. We’re going to Paris.”
  • The inclusion of a French cover of “People Are Strange” by The Doors is an excellent addition, especially when Daryl spots lead singer Jim Morrison’s grave.
  • Fallou (Eriq Ebouaney), who has long awaited meeting Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi), is introduced and takes the group on a tour of their “home sweet home,” an impressive, well ran community with 64 members.
  • Daryl isn’t impressed with the promised “radio,” which turns out to be homing pigeons.
  • Laurent is given much attention due to his status. He once again proves there is something special about him when he can console a previously unconsolable widow.
  • Daryl and Isabelle have a deep conversation about the past, to which Isabelle states,  “Maybe we’re the same that way. Broken until the world ended.”
  • The journey through the catacombs is fabulous.

The Bad:

  • Daryl, a seasoned killer of the undead, knows better than to shoot a gun when a walker can be killed with a knife.
  • Test subjects are seen at the Maison Mère, the home of Pouvoir des vivants (Power of the Living), led by Genet (Ann Charrier).
  • Codron (Romain Levi) introduces himself to Genet as he promises his allegiance to her and his dedication to locating the American for her.
  • A test walker with pure black eyes is chained to a wall. Within 18 seconds, he breaks from his bonds and slams himself against the glass as blood explodes from his head. Genet orders the doctor to continue his experiments. (Codron has a look of concern on his face).
  • While visiting her apartment to gather supplies, Isabelle sees Aimée (Naïa Pichler), the young girl on the scooter from episode 2, who has been reanimated and is tangled in vines. She later confides in Daryl that she left the girl behind at the onset of the outbreak.
  • Isabelle is reunited with Quinn (Adam Nagaitis), her former boyfriend and owner of an underground nightclub Demimonde.
  • Quinn informs Isabelle that Laurent is his son. He had a sexual encounter with her sister Lily (Faustine Koziel), and Laurent was the result. He gives her an option: he will help Daryl if she and Laurent remain with him.
  • Laurent overhears a conversation between Daryl and Isabelle regarding the lies Isabelle has been telling him.
  • Isabelle is unable to locate Laurent in the chaos.
  • Daryl encounters Codron on the roof of Fallou’s community, and as he tries to escape, Daryl falls through the roof into the building below.

What’s Next?

  • In the upcoming episode, Isabelle is still unable to locate Laurent.
  • Genet comes to Fallou’s community seeking a special boy.
  • Lots of action and walkers in the next episode.
  • The next episode: Episode 104: “La Dame de Fer” (The Lady of Iron) premieres on October 1 at 3 a.m. ET on AMC+ and 9 p.m. ET on AMC.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’s characters

Standout Characters:

Fallou is a great leader of his community. He is soft-spoken and poetic. It will be interesting to see him in the upcoming episode, as he is in the midst of some type of fight.

Quinn is a bit of an enigma as he does have a soft side despite his aggressive behavior. He seemed genuinely happy to see Isabelle but also sliced one of his patron’s nose for not following his nightclub’s strict no-weapons rule. How will he respond when he learns Genet and her Guerriers are searching for Laurent?
