The fifth episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon was an action-packed thrill ride that fleshed out Daryl’s (Norman Reedus) story and revealed how he got to France. It was possibly the best episode of The Walking Dead universe that held a surprise for some fans.

This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 1, episode 5, “Deux Amours.”

This episode finally highlighted Daryl’s time after The Walking Dead finale up to when viewers catch up to him as he washes ashore in France. Things got pretty dicey for him, but Daryl pulled out all the stops and kicked some ass.

Back in the United States, Daryl encounters a man who appears to be friendly. He is willing to trade fuel for some work. Daryl finds out there is a group of men in the same situation as him, and they are all tasked with bringing in walkers whose brain is still intact.

One community rule is no fighting, so when Daryl and a guy named Juno (John Ales) get into a fight, they are put onto a shipping vessel bound for France.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is Carol in the series?

A man named Jones (Gilbert Glenn Brown) allows Daryl to use the radio to contact the Commonwealth.

This is where a surprise “cameo” comes in. He is able to make a connection, and Carol (Melissa McBride) answers. FINALLY, some news about Carol. Even though she isn’t seen on screen, it is great to hear her voice.

Daryl checks in with her, telling her he is on the coast of Maine and should return in a week’s time. He can tell by the distress in her voice that something is off. As the connection becomes broken, she states that “someone” has returned. The call is cut short before learning who has returned.

What does this mean for the Commonwealth and Alexandria? Who could possibly have made a return that destresses her so much?

This is an exciting but concerning development in the story and explains why Daryl is so hellbent on returning to the States. He has no idea how his family and friends are fairing and knows he must return.

Episode 5 ended in a thrilling cliffhanger.  With one episode remaining, the anticipation for the season finale is high, as these events will lead into the second season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. McBride has been rumored to appear in the second season but AMC has yet to confirm this information.
