1. Hershel (Scott Wilson)

Hershel was a beloved character who passed his wisdom to others and was a vital community member. He survived a walker bite, which led to his leg being amputated, so it seemed nothing could take him down.

Enter in The Governor, who used Hershel and Michonne to get Rick’s attention. He gives Rick an ultimatum: leave by sundown, or he will kill his captives. Rick tries his best to rally people to their side, saying everyone can change. The Governor says “Liar” and partially decapitates Hershel with Michonne’s katana. He then uses it to chop at Heshel’s neck until his head is severed from his body.

Things go crazy after that as the Governor and Rick’s people explode into a fight for the prison.

In the next episode, Michonne will come upon Hershel’s reanimated head and has to put it down. As if this episode wasn’t enough of a shock, they must revisit Hershel’s demise in that scene.

Hershel was loved by many, and his death left a hole in the storyline.

While this list only contains 10 deaths that broke our hearts, many more did the same.

  • Siddiq (Avi Nash)
  • Alden (Callan McAuliffe)

  • Rosita (Christian Serratos)
