The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has concluded its first season, which consisted of six episodes. This series is an outstanding addition to The Walking Dead universe, and it will be exciting to see what’s to come in the second. In the season finale, viewers were treated to a new history of the Dixon family as William T. Dixon was introduced. Who is he?

Fans of The Walking Dead know a lot about the Dixon family. Daryl is the baby brother to Merle (Michael Rooker), and their father, Will, was a drunk who beat them. Their mother wasn’t attentive to her sons and caused a house fire, which would take her life for not putting out her cigarette correctly. This led to emotional issues that Daryl carries in adulthood, along with the physical scars.

In the Daryl Dixon spinoff’s fifth episode, the series opens a new chapter in the book of the Dixon family. In a flashback, viewers learn of the fate of Daryl’s paternal grandfather, William T. Dixon.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Dixon Family

William was the father of Will, father to the Dixon brothers. He grew up in Georgia and was married. His wife would become pregnant right before he departed for WWII. Daryl’s grandfather was killed during the D-Day invasion at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France. The series showed a clip of the beach with many dead soldiers as William’s fellow soldiers called out for him.

In the present, Daryl confides this story to Isabelle. He explains that his grandfather’s death led to the downfall of his family. This left his own father growing up without a father, a fact that Daryl says repeats itself, as he and Merle rarely saw their father.

Towards the end of the Daryl Dixon episode, Daryl begins his journey home and, as he walks through France, discovers a tattered American flag being flown over a cemetery containing many US soldiers killed in the war. He discovers the grave of Private William T. Dixon, his grandfather, and sheds tears for his grandfather and his death’s impact on the entire family.

It was an interesting piece of Dixon history that was unexpected but worth the telling.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will return to AMC and AMC+ in 2024 for the second season. This season has been retitled The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, as Melissa McBride will join the cast as Carol Peletier.
