Is there a Walking Dead Rick Grimes movie?

When AMC announced the departure of longtime hero Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln, in season 9, fans were devastated. The blow was softened with the announcement of a trilogy of movies in which Lincoln would reprise his role. So, is there a Walking Dead movie starring Rick Grimes?

The movies would disclose what transpired with Rick after Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) saved him with the aid of the CRM (Civic Republic Military). To save her own life as well, Jadis gained entry into the organization because she could offer Rick as her “ticket.” It would be revealed in The Walking Dead: World Beyond spinoff that Jadis did very well for herself by becoming Warrant Officer Jadis Stokes within the CRM.

There is good news and bad. First, the bad: AMC has announced that TWD movies have been scraped. While this is disappointing, the good news will more than makeup for it.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live

At SDCC 2022, AMC announced a new spinoff series, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, which will see Lincoln and Danai Guirira reprise their roles as Rick and Michonne. The series will continue the epic love story of the couple who have been separated for many years. The six-episode series replaces the movie that was initially announced.

Other details have yet to be released, but the official logline gives a bit more information:

"Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive – or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?"

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live release

AMC has announced that The Ones Who Live will be released on AMC and AMC+ in February 2024.

As stated above, Lincoln and Gurira will reprise their roles as Rick and Michonne, and they are joined by Pollyanna McIntosh, who will once again play Jadis. Terry O’Quinn has been announced as Major General Beale (see article above), with Lesley-Ann Brandt at Pearle Thorne and Matt Jeffers as Nat.
