Questions remain after The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season finale
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is the most recently released spinoff of The Walking Dead. The series came as a pleasant surprise to critics and viewers with its amazing storyline, fascinating new characters, and unique new walker variants. There is also the fact that it is filmed in France, making for a beautiful background set to a score that was perfection throughout the series. It is no surprise the series has been renewed for a second season but there are many questions that need answered.
At the end of season 1 of the Daryl Dixon series, Daryl (Norman Reedus) is at a crossroads. With the boat set to carry him partway home in view, Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi), who has followed Daryl, yells to him from atop a cliff. This begs the question:
Did Daryl choose to remain in France or continue his journey home?
Knowing Daryl and his kind heart, he will remain in France as he aids Laurent in fulfilling his destiny. He becomes rather fond of Laurent and thinks everyone puts too much pressure on him to be this messiah they believe him to be. He will likely not stay forever but for the time being, he will probably remain in France.
Why did the French travel to the United States to gather walkers?
The boat that Daryl was forced onto was full of walkers that Daryl and the other men gathered to be paid in fuel. This occurred in the US, and the boat was bound for France. Why aren’t the French using the undead in their country and saving the three years trying to ready the ship for travel? Many believed they had ties to the CRM (Civic Republic Military) but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Will Daryl Dixon and Isabelle become more than friends?
For some reason the writers are always teasing relationships with Daryl and female characters. They gave him a reltionship with Lean (Lynn Collins) and you remember how tht turned out. Now it seems he and Isabelle (Clémence Poésy) have a special connection, more than just friends. They shared a rather intimate moment when he was washing her wound and shared many smiles and glances while at the Nest. While they are both every different they both have trauma from their past that has been removed since the outbreak. For these two, the apocolypse allowed them to break away from the people negativly influencing their lives and become who they are meant to be. It will be interesting to see where their relationships goes during season 2.
Will more be revealed about the origin of the virus?
Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead comic believed it better to leave the virus origins a mystery. But that was in the comic and main series, could Daryl Dixon reveal something about the origns? The coda scene from The Walking Dead: World Beyond had many viewers believing the virus was started in a laboratory in France. But the new information in the Daryl Dixon series shows the French experimenting on the undead creating several different forms of varients. It will be intereseting to see if this series follows Kirkman’s thoughts about keeping the orgins a mysetery.
What was Carol trying to tell Daryl over the radio?
In episode 5 of Daryl Dixon, before he was taken to France, Daryl is able to contact Carol (Melissa McBride) via radio. He can tell something is wrong by her voice but she initially tries to blow it off. She then begins to tell him something or someone has returned. The call is cut short before she can clarify. Hopefully this will be explained in season 2.
McBride will join Reedus in the second season titled The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol.
