SDCC trailers: Watch the first trailer Walking Dead released at Comic-Con
By Renee Hansen
Happy 13th anniversary to The Walking Dead series that spawned TWDU, which includes the main series and six spinoffs. As we feel nostalgic today, take a look back at the first San Diego Comic-Con appearance of The Walking Dead, complete with the trailer for the pilot episode “Days Gone Bye” that premiered on October 31, 2010.
Long ago, a series based on a comic book called The Walking Dead hosted a panel at San Diego Comic Con 2010. This series had yet to air but was set to premiere on Halloween night that fall. Who would have known that 13 years later, this series would have aired for eleven seasons?
Part one of The Walking Dead’s first panel was held on July 23, 2010, and didn’t include any of the cast as no one knew them as their characters for this series. This panel comprised AMC executive Joel Stillerman and executive producers Greg Nicotero, Gale Anne Hurd, and Frank Darabont, and comic book creator Robert Kirkman.
During this panel, the guests explained to the attendees what to expect from this series and premiered the first trailer.

The first season of The Walking Dead consists of six episodes, with the pilot running 90 minutes. Viewers would be introduced to Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and the group of survivors from the Atlanta area and follow them as they tried to find answers regarding a cure and a safe place to live.
During the second part of the 2010 Comic Con, Stillerman, Nicotero, Hurd, and Darabont would be joined by Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, and Emma Bell. These actors played Rick Grimes, Shane Walsh, Lori Grimes, and sisters Andrea and Amy.
Interestingly, 13 years later, none of the characters featured in the first Comic Con panel are currently on the series. Rick (Andrew Lincoln) is the only survivor but left the series in season 9. He will return in a The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live spinoff in 2024.
