The Walking Dead Destinies third-person action-adventure game releases in November, and GameMill Entertainment has revealed an alternate scenario featuring Merle Dixon as you’ve never seen him before. This “What if…” concept didn’t make the final cut for the game, but it is an example of gameplay and how drastically destinies can change.

Destinies will focus on the first four seasons of The Walking Dead, where players begin as Rick Grimes as he awakens from a coma to a world overrun by walkers. Players will fight off walkers and relive many key moments from the series. They can choose new fates for characters, even ones who died in the series. This is an exciting way for players to create their own version of the storyline, where a change in a character’s destiny will significantly alter the original story. Plays could choose for Rick to die and Shane to live, completely changing the outcome.

Below is a video of a cut scenario featuring Merle Dixon if he was saved on the roof in Atlanta instead of being forced to cut off his hand to escape. (this was cut from the final version of the game).

Walking Dead Destinies characters

Players can choose from many characters featured in the early seasons of The Walking Dead. Available characters include Rick, Lori or Carl Grimes, Shane, Merle or Daryl Dixon, T-Dog, Glenn, Michonne, or the Governor, and weapon choices include Rick’s revolver, Daryl’s crossbow, Carol’s knife, and Shane’s shotgun.

Gameplay also takes players to many significant and familiar TWD locations: Woodbury, Atlanta, the prison, and Hershel’s farm.
