The Walking Dead hero Rick Grimes greatly influences the lives of the people he encounters. He is brave, intelligent, and dedicated, with a bit of a stubborn side. He possesses a strong moral code and tends to take on more responsibility than he needs to when he can share the load with others. Love him or hate him, Rick Grimes is The Walking Dead. Will Rick ever return to TWDU?

The Walking Dead series celebrates 13 years in 2023, first aired on AMC on Halloween night in 2010. The pilot episode is one of the best in entertainment. The majority of fans say the first season is the best, and this is due to the fact that this series began like no other.

While TWDU is creating some outstanding spinoff series, nothing will ever compare to season 1, episode 1, “Days Gone Bye,” of The Walking Dead.

Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln, was a man determined to find his family in a world that had been overrun by the undead. Nothing would stand in his way once he realized his wife, Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies), and son, Carl (Chandler Riggs) were still alive.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is the next spinoff of TWD that will be released in 2024. The excellent news is that Lincoln will return as Rick Grimes in this new series and be joined by Danai Gurira, who will reprise her role as Michonne. This series will continue the story of these two beloved characters who left the main series in seasons 9 and 10.

“The Ones Who Live” is a quote Rick originally said in season 5, episode 15, “Try.” He was addressing the residents of Alexandria after that crazy fight between Rick and Pete (Corey Brill). Rick is all bloody, draws his gun and tells those listening:

"You still don’t get it. None of you do. We know what needs to be done, and we do it. We’re the ones who live. You, you just sit and plan and hesitate. You pretend like you know when you don’t."

When speaking to Rick, Michonne uses this quote twice (seasons 7 and 9) to remind him that they are survivors. The mantra has now become words of hope, and fans saw this in the coda scene of The Walking Dead series finale. It was an impactful scene as numerous TWD characters repeated the phrase.

“The Ones Who Live” is important as it reminds them that they are inspired by those they encounter, and vice versa, it doesn’t matter if they are alive or dead, near or far; they can impact, encourage, and strengthen those still living.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will air on AMC and AMC+ beginning February 2024.
