Does Morgan die in The Walking Dead universe?
By Renee Hansen
Actor Lennie James has portrayed one of the original characters of The Walking Dead for 13 years. Morgan Jones began his story in the main series and would become the first character to crossover to another series. He joined Fear the Walking Dead at the start of its fourth season, but did he die?
Morgan was introduced in the pilot episode of The Walking Dead, “Days Gone Bye.” He assisted hero Rick Grimes, who awoke from a coma to the end of the world where the undead had taken over. Morgan helps him by caring for his wounds and teaching him the rules of the new world he found himself in.
In the midseason finale of the eighth season of Fear TWD, Morgan leaves with his daughter Mo (Zoey Merchant) to seek his old friend Rick Grimes. This marked James’ last appearance in TWDU.
Morgan did survive, but according to James, he has closed out Morgan’s story and won’t return to this character unless something extremely amazing is presented.
Morgan Jones – The Walking Dead universe
Morgan experienced many changes during his time in TWDU. He began as an intelligent man who learned to navigate the world that was thrust upon him.
He would later be seen as a shell of a man after losing his son Duane (: Adrian Kali Turner) when the walker version of his wife Jenny (Keisha Tillis) attacked and bit him. Morgan’s refusal to put her down resulted in his son’s death. He would deal with both of their deaths in season 8 and return to King County, where he would bury them beside one another.
He would come and go in Rick’s life, reunite with his old friend in season 5, and continue to reside in the communities until after the All Out War with the Saviors. This is when he decided to leave this group and begin a new journey.
That journey would lead him to the fourth season of Fear TWD, where he first meets John Dorie (Garret Dillahunt).
Lennie James’ last episode of TWDU aired on AMC and AMC+ on June 18, 2023. Many fans hope that Morgan and Rick will one day be reunited, perhaps in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, the Rick and Michonne (Danai Gurira) spinoff series.
