Does Negan appear in episode 9 of Fear the Walking Dead season 8?

During the ninth episode of Fear the Walking Dead, Dwight (Austin Amelio) traveled back to the Sanctuary, the former home of the Saviors. The episode explores the trauma both he and his wife Sherry (Christine Evangelista) suffered while living there before the All Out War in The Walking Dead series.

Dwight and Sherry have experienced significant loss; in season 8, their son Finch (Gavin Warren) died, which led them to the discussion to separate, as grief seems to always follow them. In the ninth episode of the final season of Fear TWD, Dwight leaves the group to return to his old home.

The Sanctuary was the former home of the Saviors, led by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). In this episode, Negan didn’t appear in the current storyline but was featured in quick flashback clips of Dwight and Sherry’s days during the height of Negan’s reign.

One of the most significant flashbacks features Negan coming at Dwight with the hot iron he disfigured his face with while hearing his words, “There is always a cost. It is what it is. The rules matter. Who are you, Dwight?” Dwight stared into the fire while remembering this horrific life event.

Fear the Walking Dead

Sherry, June (Jenna Elfman), and Dove (Jayla Walton) follow Dwight in an attempt to bring him back to PADRE and defend the community, which returning character Troy Otto (Daniel Sharman) intends to take from them.

While Dwight and Sherry revisit their house and the Sanctuary, both experience difficult flashbacks to the days when Negan ruled their lives. But this was also a time of healing for both of them as they faced their past trauma while making plans for the future of PADRE.

Fear the Walking Dead has three episodes remaining and will conclude with a two-episode series finale on November 19 on AMC and AMC+.
