The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2, Jeffrey Dean Morgan shares update, sort of

The SAG-AFTRA strikes have ended, which means The Walking Dead: Dead City will likely begin production on the spinoff’s second season. During SDCC 2023, AMC announced that the Maggie and Negan spinoff would be renewed for another season.

Dead City premiered on AMC and AMC+ in June 2023 and was a continuation of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) stories, which began in The Walking Dead. Set in Manhattan, the series followed Maggie as she tried to rescue her son Hershel (Logan Kim), who was abducted by a former member of Negan’s Saviors. In order to secure her son’s release, Maggie had to betray Negan and trade him for her son.

It was a great season that left many questions in viewers’ minds that will be answered in the upcoming season.

A fan asked Morgan on Twitter/X about filming for the next season. Morgan replied that he’s been in talks with Cohan and the rest of the crew, who are all excited to get back to it.

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2

Season one of Dead City ended with Maggie vowing to end things with Negan to focus on her son, who has felt that Negan has consumed her life. Hershel has a lot of pent-up anger towards his mother and experiences trauma at the hands of the Dama (Lisa Emery) and The Croat (Željko Ivanek). It will be interesting to see where the next part of his story goes.

Negan was left in the hands of the Dama, a powerful woman who wants to take over the island of Manhattan with Negan’s help. Will she elevate Negan to a higher ranking than the Croat and cause strife between the two men?

Ginny  (Mahina Napoleon) was returned to The Bricks, far away from Negan, whom she latched on to after the deaths of her father. She would later learn that Negan was responsible for his death. How will this affect the young girl?

There has been no official word from AMC regarding a premiere for the next season of The Walking Dead: Dead City. The Rick and Michonne spinoff, The Ones Who Live, will premiere in February 2024, and the second season of the Daryl Dixon series, which will star Melissa McBride, will also premiere in 2024.
