Fear the Walking Dead began with a strong start during its 2015 premiere on AMC. While set in the same world as the main series, the series had its own agenda by showcasing the outbreak at the beginning. The series has now concluded its story.

This article contains spoilers for the series finale of Fear the Walking Dead. Tread lightly.

The first three seasons are considered the best, with things falling away during season 4 and beyond. Season six did have its merits, but otherwise, Fear the Walking Dead never benefited from the change of showrunners.

The eighth and final season began with what appeared to be a decent start but quickly digressed—the first half of the season centered on Morgan Jones (Lennie James), who would depart at the midseason premiere. He and his daughter Mo (Zoey Merchant) would go in search of Morgan’s old friend Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) after burying his love and Mo’s other, Grace (Karen David). This segment also showed the disappointing reveal about PADRE.

On November 19, 2023, AMC and AMC+ would air the two-episode series finale of Fear the Walking Dead.

Fans had been very excited to see how things wind up for our survivors. While there were a few shocks, the season’s highlights were the return of Troy Otto (Daniel Sharman) and the long-awaited reunion of Madison and her daughter Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey).

One big issue I had was that several long-time characters were casually mentioned during the second part of the season, which was a significant letdown to fans of these characters. Alive or dead, they deserved a much better send-off.

The biggest shock of the finale was Madison running Troy through with Alicia’s prosthetic arm. He deserved it, as he lied to Madison until his final breath.

In the end, most of the characters appear to have their happily ever after, at least for the moment.

The finale felt rushed, and the writing is subpar compared to the talent of the actors who star in this show, which is a disservice to these highly talented individuals. The return of Alicia felt awkward and forced, as the creators knew fans wanted this moment.

It is difficult to say if this series will see spinoffs, but showrunners’ comments make it sound like this is the end for these characters. Only time will tell if AMC will bring Fear TWD spinoffs into the mix.
