Fear the Walking Dead: Skidmark, a cat, a better ending than Sarah, Wendell or Jacob

Fear the Walking Dead concluded its final season in November 2023. The series ran for eight seasons, of which the majority of fans believe the first three are the best. The series finale was a double-episode event that ended with many happily ever afters. One huge thing they did very wrong was to ignore three significant characters while giving Skidmark the cat a better send-off.

Skidmark was rightfully reunited with Daniel (Ruben Blades) during the final scenes of Fear TWD. Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) found the feline and returned him to his partner. It was a great moment for fans of the series who long to know where the cat ended up after last being seen in season 6.

While this was a fun treat, it seems quite odd that the showrunners found time for this but neglected to mention or show a glimpse of Sarah (Mo Collins), Wendell (Daryl Mitchell), and Jacob (Peter Jacobson).

Sarah Rabinowitz and her adopted brother Wendell were introduced during season 4, episode 11, “Code.” They first meet Morgan (Lennie James) and tell him of their mission to deliver supplies nationwide.

Jacob was introduced in season 5, episode 12, “Ner Tamid.” Rabbi Jacob Kessner was discovered by Charlie (Alexa Nisenson) in a temple where he lived alone.

Initially, it was thought that these three died off-screen, and the only mention was a story told to Madison (Kim Dickens) by Victor Strand (Colman Domingo). He told her of the people he traveled with on the rafts, where some were taken in by PADRE and others escaped, as Victor did. But these people, horribly treated by Victor when he was the ruler of the tower, wouldn’t accept his help and later starved to death.

But, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Andrews Chambliss explained that these characters would appear, but there was no room.

"One story thread that we had initially planned to address was seeing what happened to Sarah, Wendell, and Rabbi Jacob. And when we got into the planning of the final six episodes, we just didn’t have the room for it. And looking back, it’s a bummer to us that we didn’t get to say goodbye to those characters, but it was always in our imagination that they are part of Luciana’s crew out there keeping the roads clear between Texas and the East Coast."

It is sad to think that Sarah, Wendell, and Jacob didn’t receive a better send-off during the final episodes.

Mo Collins, Daryl Mitchell, and Peter Jacobson, if you happen upon this article, your time was appreciated, and your characters are much loved within the fandom. Thank you for everything.
