Michonne Hawthorne was first introduced in the second season of The Walking Dead. Although her first appearance was during the season finale of that season and it was brief, she made quite the entrance. In the third season, actress extraordinaire Danai Gurira was introduced as Michonne, a woman who saves Andrea (Laurie Holden) and will eventually become a leader and wife of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).

Michonne departed the main series in season 10 when she discovered that her love, Rick, could possibly be alive.

Rick heroically sacrificed himself in the ninth season to save those he loves. As his family and friends looked on, he blew up a bridge serving as a gateway to a horde of walkers that would allow them entrance to their communities. Viewers were privy to the fact that Jadis/Anne (Pollyanna McIntosh) saved him with the help of the CRM (Civic Republic Military). Still, everyone else believed he perished during the blast.

As life moved on for everyone else, Michonne, Judith (Cailey Fleming), Daryl (Norman Reedus), and others felt the loss of Rick daily. Daryl spent years searching for his “brother” while Michonne continued to lead while raising Rick’s daughter Judith and his son R.J. (Antony Azur), a child born of their union.

In season 10, Michonne travels to Bloodworth island and discovers some items belonging to Rick. This would prove that he didn’t die in the blast. After discussing this information with Judith, who encouraged her to find her father, she immediately set plans to find her true love in motion.

During the series finale of The Walking Dead, fans would be treated to a small bit of information regarding what Rick and Michonne have endured since they departed from the main series. Although it has been many years, neither has given hope of finding the other.
