Walking Dead actor Angus Sampson has been announced for the upcoming Mad Max: Furiosa. Sampson is known for his role as one of the Highwaymen named Ozzy, who became one of Alpha’s (Samantha Morton) pike victims from season 9. Sampson previously starred in Mad Max: Fury Road, which premiered in 2015.
Mad Max: Furiosa is a spinoff and prequel to the 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road both directed by George Miller, co-creator of the post-apocalyptic dystopian Mad Max franchise with Byron Kennedy. Furiosa will be the fifth installment focusing on the title character introduced in the 2015 movie, played by Charlize Theron. This story will answer questions from her past and serve as her origin story.
The latest installment will see Imperator Furiosa played by Anya Taylor-Joy, and she will be joined by Chris Hemsworth, Sampson, Tom Burke, Nathan Jones, Quaden Bayles, Daniel Webber, and Lachy Hulme.
Taylor-Joy will play a younger version of Furiosa, with Hemsworth portraying Dementus, the main villain in the new movie. Jones returns as Immortan Joe’s son, Rictus Erectus, with Sampson as The Organic Mechanic, a doctor who works for Joe, and Webber as War Boy.
Furiosa first appears in the storyline during the Fury Road movie, where she is introduced by Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne). Although she answers to Joe, she rebels in order to rescue The Five Wives. This character has been praised for introducing a feminist theme to the franchise in the form of a strong heroine.
