Celebrate Christmas with Anna and the Apocolypse, the perfect zombie musical
By Renee Hansen
December is here, and if you are a fan of the zombie genre and Christmas, have we got the movie for you. The 2017 British Christmas musical, Anna and the Apocalypse will surely get you in the festive holiday mood.
The film is directed by John McPhail, a Scottish director and screenwriter, from a screenplay by Alan McDonald and Ryan McHenry. Based on the BAFTA-nominated short film by McHenry, Zombie Musical, the story follows a zombie outbreak in the small town of Little Haven during the Christmas season. On the verge of finishing school and heading out to spend a year traveling, Anna must instead fight off zombies in an effort to survive. She and her friends battle against the undead, oftentimes singing in the process, and discover they must set aside their differences and fight together.
The tagline reads “Shaun of the Dead meets La La Land,” which sounds great to some.
The film has a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, stating, “Anna and the Apocalypse finds fresh brains and a lot of heart in the crowded zombie genre—not to mention a fun genre mashup populated by rootable characters.”
