“Tell it to the Frogs” Season 1, Episode 3 – the quarry scene

“Tell It to the Frogs” shows a great scene of women supporting women. Even in the apocalypse, household duties still need tending. In this scene, the ladies are doing laundry in the quarry, wondering why they are the only ones doing this job.

They proceed to reminisce about the days before and the items they miss most. Carol (Melissa McBride) misses her Maytag, Andrea (Laurie Holden) misses her Benz, Jacqui (Jeryl Prescott) misses that coffee maker with that gold drip filter, and Amy (Emma Bell) misses her computer and texting. Andrea then gets a laugh by commenting that she misses her vibrator. They all laugh, and Carol, who is the only married one, looks around to see if Ed  (Adam Minarovich) can hear and adds she misses hers also. This statement makes the women laugh even louder. This scene is all about the women forgetting about their current situation and just enjoying the company of other women.

Up to this point, it was just fun and laughter. Then Ed enters. He is a raincloud over every aspect of Carol’s life. He tells Carol she needs to tend to her work and that this isn’t a comedy club. He was just showing his control over her life. The girls try to defend her and comment about the fresh bruises they have seen on Carol.

Unfortunately, abuse is another thing that followed Carol into the apocalypse. Luckily, Shane (Jon Bernthal) steps in, fresh off an argument with Lori, so he takes his rage out on Ed, which no one feels bad about. Except for Carol.

It’s hard to remember Carol from this scene to the Carol we know now. Thank goodness she was able to rise above and become a leader and defender in our group.
