“Seed” Season 3, Episode 1 – Michonne saves Andrea’s Life

When we first meet Michonne (Danai Gurira) at the very end of season 2, it is a very dramatic entrance. We see a silhouette of a woman with a katana that has two walkers tethered to her as she decapitates a walker that is trying to attack Andrea. Andrea had been on her own out in the woods after escaping the walker horde at Hershel’s farm, and she was utterly exhausted and unable to protect herself. When we pick up in season 3, the two women have been traveling together over the winter. They have taken care of one another and protected each other during this time.

When Michonne encountered Andrea, she had no idea who this woman was, or where she came from, but seeing someone in need, she helped anyway. They became good friends and had to deal with a lot of dangers during their time together.

When Andrea got sick, Michonne searched for medicine that would help Andrea heal from her illness. When Andrea decided she was too much of a burden while she was recovering from her sickness, Michonne wouldn’t hear of it and continued to help and protect her friend.

Michonne’s actions show what wonderful character and integrity she possesses, and the two women rely on each other throughout the entirety of their friendship.

“Killer Within” Season 3, Episode 4 – Maggie helps Lori once again

Maggie is up again in “Killer Within”. This is another heart-wrenching scene, but it has to be mentioned.

Lori’s pregnancy seemed to be relatively easy, considering the world they were living in. At the end of her pregnancy, we find them living at the prison, and things haven’t been going smoothly. When Hershel got bit, his leg was chopped off, and they also found out they weren’t alone in the prison.

During the scene where Judith is born, Maggie is right there for Lori. The prison alarms were set off by Andrew ( Markice Moore), one of the prisoners they came into contact with, and the walkers were everywhere. Carl, Lori, and Maggie get cornered in the boiler room, and then Lori goes into labor. Maggie takes charge of coaching her while Carl stands guard. They realize something is wrong and that the baby isn’t going to be able to come naturally. Lori tells Maggie to cut her open because she isn’t going to lose the baby. Maggie knows Lori won’t survive, but she insists.

Maggie proceeds to cut the baby from Lori’s body. She brings the baby into the world at the wishes of its mother. This would be a tough thing to do, even in the cruel world they live in. Maggie then has to take the baby to Rick and let him know Lori is gone.

As hard as this had to be for Maggie, she honored the wishes of Lori by bringing her child into this world.
