The Walking Dead universe consists of the flagship series and six spinoff series. Fans were devastated when the eleventh season of The Walking Dead series was announced as the final, and soon after, Fear the Walking Dead announced that its eighth season would be the final. While many characters’ stories have continued in the new series, another segment in TWDU is worthy of viewing.

TWDU has many webisodes set in the same world, and many are tied to familiar characters or one of the numerous series within the fandom. In 2022 the success of Dead in the Water, a webisode that ties directly to Fear the Walking Dead, brought attention to the other webisodes featured in TWDU.

Dead in the Water was an exciting expansion to Fear TWD's story that spiked interest in other Walking Dead-related webisodes. These brief miniseries tell brief offshoot tales in the universe, generally centered around a main character or characters.

The Fear TWD spinoff webisode, Dead in the Water, directly connects to Fear TWD and tells the story of the crew aboard the USS Pennsylvania submarine, first featured in season 6 of Fear TWD. This series, directed by Kenneth Requa, sees Nick Stahl reprise his role of Riley, who would eventually become one of Teddy’s (John Glover) cult followers on Fear TWD.

The series takes viewers back to the eve of the outbreak, where the crew must fight for survival against their crewmates, who begin to reanimate into the undead. This is one of the best webisodes that looks at the beginnings of the outbreak and the confusion experienced as events start to unfold.

Dead in the Water is currently only available on AMC+ and YouTube.

The Walking Dead Webisodes: Cold Storage

Fear The Walking Dead: Flight 462

This series takes place on a passenger flight that features a group of survivors in the early parts of the outbreak. This web series would be the first to tie into Fear the Walking Dead and aired to promote Fear TWD’s second and TWD’s sixth seasons.

Fear The Walking Dead: Passage

This 16-part series features two survivors as they seek to find sanctuary. This is the second web series to accompany Fear TWD and was used to promote the third season of Fear TWD and the seventh season of Fear TWD.

The Walking Dead Webisodes: Red Machete

Rick Grimes’ famous red machete gets its own origin story. Follow the machete from its beginning as an item on a hardware store shelf and its journey from person to person. Fans know that Rick will eventually use it to kill Gareth in season 5 of The Walking Dead.
