Many series have connotations that fans begin to associate with them, for good and bad reasons. The Walking Dead is no exception to that rule. From Props such as Daryl’s Crossbow and Negan’s favorite barbed bat, Lucille, to costume pieces like Rick’s hat and boots - there are so many details that fans grasp onto that become part of the show's identity.
One thing I always loved about The Walking Dead team was how great the merchandising team were. Fans were brought much closer to many elements from the series that they could bring into their everyday lives. Most recently, this was evident with the huge Heritage Auction, which saw hundreds of items from the franchise up for auction, giving fans the chance to own them and a piece of their favorite show.
This brings me to think about things fans haven’t yet had official merchandise of. Whilst I have touched on that before, a massive part of TWD’s ID is the apocalyptic food that the characters find themselves scavenging for, or in the more luxurious times, making themselves, some of which feature in the official cookbook. Here are five food items that are the most iconic in TWD that fans wish were real items we could grab off the shelf.
5. Dwight’s Sanctuary Sandwich
Going back to Season seven of the mothership show, fans were brought to the Sanctuary at the height of its population and popularity. During this time, we see Dwight make what is assumed to be, a big and full breakfast sandwich. Ingredients include egg, lettuce, and tomatoes between thickly sliced bread, sounds nicer than poor imprisoned Daryl’s dog food on bread! I can definitely imagine if this sandwich were on the shelf, lots of fans would use this as a quick grab-and-go bite to devour on the way to work.

4. Negan’s Saucy Spaghetti
Who can forget when Negan very “generously” made Carl spaghetti after delivering him back to Alexandria. Whilst the dish itself looked very appealing, the actual dinner scene in 708 Hearts Still Beating, in which this spaghetti featured, was very awkward. That said, if Negan bottled that Italian tomato sauce, fans would flock to recreate the dish.
3. Carol’s Cookies
Possibly one of the most iconic things in the TWD franchise. While Carol’s Cookies may have had official crockery made in tribute to them, there were never any officially packaged cookie boxes produced for the sweet treat.
Whilst the ingredients to this recipe may not reflect what the majority would look for in a Cookie, things are different in the apocalypse. And fans are somewhat curious to know what acorn flour, beets and the dash of applesauce would taste like when put together. Whether it would be used for the same reason as Carol for bribery or just as an after-dinner snack, these cookies would be a must-try for any TWD fan.
2. Carls Iconic Chocolate Pudding
Whether you would want to eat it on a rooftop or maybe more comfortably in front of a TV binging TWD, no tin of this stuff would last very long. The comfort of tucking into chocolate pudding would be welcomed by many, especially after a long day fighting off Walkers. Whilst there are some very good branded puddings out there, something would just hit different about an official version of this delicious dessert featuring one of TWDU’s most loved characters.

1. Taste Of Tradition Ice Cream
Now this one is a must! It was a shock to many fans and characters when we first saw how the Commonwealth were running their community. One of the biggest shocks was the food options available. From Yumiko reuniting with her Brother in a bakery to the feast featured in the last episode, there were so many “normal” foods we hadn’t been accustomed to seeing in the show.
One element that was really focused on was the amazing Taste of Tradition ice cream truck, which served an array of ice cream flavors, including Eugene’s favorite, black raspberry. If his reaction is anything to go by, it tasted pretty damn good!
The Walking Dead Universe is available to stream now on AMC Plus in the USA and Sky Max and Now TV in the UK.
