Andrew Lincoln is a name that almost every fan of modern television knows, thanks to his iconic portrayal of Rick Grimes on The Walking Dead. Yet, as iconic as this role is, it represents just one facet of Lincoln’s impressive career.

He has a career that stretches far beyond the zombie apocalypse and into a surprisingly diverse array of film projects. In this article, we’re shining a spotlight on three of his movies that most Walking Dead fans probably haven’t seen. These films showcase his range as an actor. From emotional dramas to feel-good rom-coms, these films highlight Lincoln’s versatility and ability to fully inhabit a wide variety of characters.

Love Actually (2003)

  • Where to watch: Rent or purchase on digital platforms

Love Actually is actually a pretty huge romantic comedy film. But if you're a person who isn't into all the holiday fluff and romantic clichés, you probably haven't heard of it. It follows multiple interconnected stories set in London during the weeks leading up to Christmas, exploring the joys, heartbreaks, and surprises of love in its many forms.

Lincoln plays a supporting but memorable role. His character, Mark, harbors a secret love for his best friend's new wife, Juliet, leading to one of the film’s most iconic and quietly emotional moments when he confesses his feelings using cue cards. Also in the cast are Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Laura Linney, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Keira Knightley, and many others.

Penguin Bloom (2020)

  • Where to watch: Netflix

Penguin Bloom is more on the serious side. It's a drama film based on a true story, following Sam Bloom, a woman who becomes paralyzed after a tragic accident and struggles to find hope and purpose in her new reality. The story takes a heartwarming turn when the family rescues an injured magpie chick, named Penguin, whose presence helps inspire Sam’s emotional and physical recovery.

Lincoln plays Sam's supportive husband, Cameron, who tries his best to help navigate the family through this life-changing journey. Naomi Watts stars in the leading role as Sam. In addition, Jacki Weaver, Rachel House, Felix Cameron, Leeanna Walsman, and Lisa Hensley are in the cast.

Scenes of a Sexual Nature (2006)

  • Where to watch: Tubi

Scenes of a Sexual Nature brings us back to the comedy side of Lincoln’s work. It's also similar to Love Actually in the way it tells multiple, interwoven stories about love, relationships, and the awkward, funny, and sometimes bittersweet moments that come with them. Set over the course of a single day in London’s Hampstead Heath, the film follows the lives of several different couples and individuals, each navigating their own romantic dilemmas.

Lincoln portrays the role of Jamie, a man who finds himself caught in a humorous and slightly awkward romantic situation when his wife catches him staring at another woman nearby. The rest of the cast is made up of Adrian Lester, Ewan McGregor, Tom Hardy, Catherine Tate, Eileen Atkins, Gina McKee, Holly Aird, Hugh Bonneville, Sophie Okonedo, and Douglas Hodge.
